Charles Rice died the Saturday before (26 Aug) in Eldred, born 18 Aug 1840 in Liberty, PA the son of Joel & Roxey (Ames) RICE. He married Lusenia BURROWS on February 12th (year not given) in Niles, Allegany Co., NY; she died 6 Dec 1901. Charles enlisted in the Union Army on 5 Oct 1864 in Waterford, Erie Co., PA, served as a private in Co. F. 58th PA Vol. Inf. 3rd Brigade 1st Division XXIV Corps & was honorably discharged 11 Oct 1865 at Stanton, VA. His paternal grandfather, Ephrain RICE, served in the War of 1812, as did his wife's paternal grandfather, Isaac Burrows (U.S. Navy).
