POQUOSON - Reiko Miki Stewart, 76, died peacefully, Sunday, May 31, 2009.

She was born in Yahata, Fukuoka, Japan, on March 17, 1933. She was a great wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother. She was baptized at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, Va., on Sept. 17, 2006, and loved serving the Lord. She was a wonderful cook that brought joy to those with whom she shared this gift. She enjoyed sharing the company of good friends and the wonderful hospitality at her favorite restaurant, Kappo Nara…a place that made her feel like she was back in Japan. She became a naturalized citizen on July 8, 1998 and loved the USA.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Kenneth B. Stewart; son, John B. Stewart and wife, Hope of Smithfield, Va.; and three grandchildren, Ethan, Emma Claire and Fiona; daughter, Joyce E. Soness and husband, Eric of Flower Mound, Texas.; brothers, Fumio Miki and Isao Miki; and sister, Keiko Shigemura of Japan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 5, at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
