POQUOSON - Moody Estrige Firth, age 77, passed away on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008. He was a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson.

He worked installing roofs and had also worked as a waterman, retiring after many years. He was a member of the Baptist faith. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Poquoson Post #176. His hobbies and interests included spending as much time with his family as possible, Bluegrass music, and spending time around the waters of Poquoson.

Preceding him in rest are his daughter, Phyllis M. Savchenko; great-grandson, Jaylin Marshall; parents, Elizabeth and Elton Firth; and brother, Ruben Firth.

Surviving members of his family include his wife of 21 years, Phyllis A. Firth; sons, Moody E. Firth Jr. of Michigan, Timothy Firth of Saluda, Va., William E. Firth of Florida; daughters, Myrtle Conner of Hampton, Va., Theresa K. Bugg of Hampton, Va., Alice M. Powell of Poquoson, Va., Mary E. Mihalczo of Hampton, Va.; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two soon to be born great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Firth; sister, Sue Bailey; and many extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home, with Pastor H. Benny Topping Jr. presiding. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 1035 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662.
