POQUOSON - Henry Pankoke, 87, a native of Johnstown, Pa., and longtime resident of Poquoson passed away Monday night Nov. 24, 2008.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after many years from Civil Service at Langley AFB in 1986.

He also served as a former Poquoson Volunteer Fire Chief.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Karl and Margaret Pankoke; his beloved wife of 67 years, Josie Pankoke; their son, Henry "Gene" Pankoke Jr.; his brothers, Richard and Jack Pankoke; his sisters, Betty Pankoke and Mary Louise Dunn Schaffer.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Joseph Pankoke and his wife, Sheila; daughter-in-law, Thelma Pankoke; three grandchildren, Joshua Pankoke, Kevin Pankoke and his wife, Judy, Kimberley Williams and her husband, Chris; a great-grandson, Brady Williams all of Poquoson; a brother, Vincent Pankoke of Johnstown, Pa.; a sister, Marguerite Rigby of San Diego, Calif.; and a special nephew, James Dunn and his wife, Christine of Newport News.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Commonwealth Assisted Living (Mayfair House) of Hampton for all of their loving care and support.
