Margerene was the daughter of Thomas Francis and Lourana (Mrs. Hagins) Polly. She married John Whit Stamper (son of of John Whitaker "Whitt" Stamper and Lucinda 'Lucy' or 'Cinda' Hogg). Margerene was born on 3 Jul 1842 in Letcher Co, KY and died on 5 Oct 1908 in Petersville, Lewis Co, KY at age 66.

"Descendants of James Stamper 1750-1826" (1945) by Oliver Stamper states that John Whit Stamper (John Whit, William' James) farmer and Baptist preacher. b. July 20, 1838, in what is now Letcher Co, Kentucky. md. Margerene Francis, daughter of Thomas and Lourana (Polly) Francis. John was an orderly in Southern Army during the war between the States. John Whit was an orderly in the Southern Army during the Civil War. He a nd Margerene lived for a time on Mallet Fork of Carr's which is now Knott Co, KY. They moved c. 1883 by horse and wagon to Petersville, Lewis C o, KY They drove 100 cattle in front of the wagons and farmers would let them spend the night. It took them 11 days to arrive at Lewis County. Their wagons wre packed with only food. They lived for a time on Mallet Fork of Carr in what is now Knott Co, Kentucky and about 1885 moved with their family to Petersville, Lewis Co, Kentucky, where he died July 4, 1907, and she died October 5, 1908.
