He owned and operated Jesse Simmons Fabric and Upholstery in Hampton until his retirement in 1994. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.
Preceding him in rest are his parents and three sisters. Surviving members of his family include his loving wife of 54 years, Esther Simmons; 4 children, Terri, Jesse, Jr., Tami and Georgeann; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 27, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Parklawn – Wood Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a service remembering "Tiny" will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, Building Fund.
