Jean Dale Knutson, age 83, of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 in San Angelo.

He was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Rochelle, to Lewis Edward Knutson and Helen (Bush) Knutson. He was a graduate of Rochelle High School. He received his B.S. from Southwest Texas Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos and his Masters from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He married Betty Jane Clary, Feb. 27, 1953, in Pecos. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and played on the Air Force Football Team for four years. He was a member of the Rochelle Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a science teacher, a football coach, principal and curriculum director, retiring in 1990. He taught for 33 years, teaching in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. He was also the director of missions for the North American Indian Missions for 6 years in Ramah, NM. He was a member of the American Legion and an active member of Gideon International since 1973.

Funeral services for Jean Dale Knutson were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Rev. Kenneth Barr officiating. Burial with military honors followed at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason. Friends may view the video tribute or sign the online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Pallbearers were Ryan Miles Denney, Clay Edson Brewer, Douglas Ray Knutson, Joshua Paul Knutson, Jordon Miles Knutson and Justin Douglas Jean Knutson, 83 Knutson.

Jean Dale Knutson is survived by his wife, Betty Clary Knutson of the home; son, Miles Dale Knutson and wife, Brenda, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Paul Jean Knutson and wife, Lisa, of Celina; daughters, Carmel Brubaker of Clovis, Calif. and Helen Faye Brewer and husband, Clay, of Placid; daughter-in-law, Sharon Knutson-Felix of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers, Sam Knutson and wife, Sallye, of San Marcos, L.E. Knutson and wife, Cee, of San Antonio; sisters, Jessie Ethridge of Snyder, Helen Parker of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Fay Knutson of Mercury; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Candy Beth Knutson; son, Arizona State Trooper Douglas Edward Knutson; grandson, Ricky Dale Knutson; brothers, Pete, Eddie and Lonnie and sisters, Berta Hudspeth and Virgie Williamson. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International. Arrangements were entrusted to Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.
