Hassett, Jim W., 85, of Clearwater, FL passed away March 20, 2012 due to natural causes. Jim served as a Deacon at Light of Christ (LOC) Catholic Church for 25 years. He lettered in Swimming and was a graduate of Yale University's College of Engineering. He was a mechanical engineer for many corporations and operated independent businesses throughout the years. He served in the Navy during WWII. Deacon Jim was a lifelong advocate of the rights of unborn children and served Christ in many capacities.
He is survived by his loving family; son Gregg (Linda) of Acworth, GA, and daughters Meg Newton (Richard) of Powder Springs, GA and Karen McCarthy (Dennis) of Belle Glade, FL. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marianna, daughter Cathy Dickinson (Terry) of Chesapeake, VA, and his only brother, Buzz Hassett of Atlanta, GA. Jim had 8 grandchildren: Matthew, Zach, Caitlin, Erin, Josh, Stephen, Ryan, and Jaime. Jim, we will see you in heaven, "good Lord's willing & the creek don't rise."
A memorial wake will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, April 13that Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday April 14th at Light of Christ Catholic Church, 2176 Marilyn St, Clearwater. Interment will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jim and Marianna's favorite charity: Covenant House: Coral Ridge Station, PO Box 39282, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33339
