In August 1947, Ray married Ruth (Vogele) in Colorado. Together they had 4 boys, and 64 wonderful years of marriage. They moved together to Oregon for work. Ray started as a Burr hand at Louds Machinery, and worked his way up to Foreman. He spent 15 years there, and then went to Boeing where he worked as a plant superintendent until his retirement in 1992 at age 65. Even after retirement, Ray went to the gym faithfully, five days a week, and maintained his fitness and health. He had a strong handshake his entire life, and taught his children the things they needed to know to become men. His family was of the upmost importance to him. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids above all else. He was strict, but loving, and honest to a fault. Ray could always be counted on, and was generous to others. He volunteered often, but never liked to get anything in return. Raymond and Ruth were members at Trinity Lutheran Church since 1968.
Ray is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Gresham; sons Steve Schwartz of Alta Loma, CA, Jim Schwartz of Fairview, OR, Craig Schwartz of Troutdale, OR, Brad Schwartz of Gresham; brother Jim Schwartz of Ft. Collins, CO; as well as 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gresham, with reception to follow. A committal with military honors will be held at 2:00pm at Willamette National Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
