Janice Vail Thorne, a small, elegant woman with big dreams, is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Gamaliel of Buford, GA; one daughter, Katrina Pitts (Brad), Newport News, VA; one son, Brandon Thorne, Fort Hood, Texas; and two grandsons, Bryce and Chase Pitts.
She was born on February 18, 1951 to William and Lillie Vail in New Bern, NC. She is the 5th child of 9 remaining siblings, namely William Vail, Jr, New Bern, NC; Barbara Kaigler, Burlington, NC; Lillie Bell (Charles), Newark, NJ; Richard Vail, Clinton, MD; Saundra Bass, Hampton, VA; Seth Vail (Doreen), Baltimore, MD; Alton Vail (Annette), Duncanville, Texas; Michael Vail (Beverly), Norfolk, VA; and Pamela Vail, North Plainfield, NJ. She also leaves a host of other family and friends.
A wake will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton, VA from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2012. The Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta will be hosting an Omega Omega Service during the wake beginning at 6 pm, all Deltas are welcome. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Hampton in Hampton, VA. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
