She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Donna Boutte, of New York and Trisha Boutte of Hampton, VA, her grandson, Shatiek Winn of Hampton, VA and her granddaughters, Aashama Brown and Zion Boutte, of Hampton, VA. She also leaves seven brothers and sisters, and a host of family and friends.
Leona worked in the jewelry business in New York City for over 28 years, initially as a jewelry maker and worked her way up the ranks as a jewelry inspector. She was an expert in her craft. She also loved to cook and to sew for herself as well as for others.
Leona was diagnosed with brain cancer and confronted her illness with a vengeance. She fought like a lion (BEASTED) until her departure on April 22, 2012.
A special thanks for contributing to Leona's life and fight includes: Gus Lee (brother), Lavette Alexander, Raquel Alexander Jackson, Michael Ramsey, Jean Bien-Aime, Tracy Mitchell, Clifford Brown, Mayra Blessington, Sonja Foster, Henry Pope, Melanie Harmon, Dafina Rolle and family, The Jacobs family (Anem), and the Rubin Family. We would also like to thank Jennifer Markham for her loving care and being Shatiek's "second mom" during our time of need.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday morning, 11 am, May 5, 2012, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home located at 551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666.
