Rev. William Henry Stevens was the son of Benedict and Eve (Ow) Stevens. Margaretta (Sheffler) Stevens was his 1st wife. They were married February 18, 1858. Margaretta died February 9, 1895. Carrie (Feight) Linn Stevens was his 2nd wife. They were married September 1897. Carrie died December 25, 1913. Rev. Stevens was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church and entered the ministry in 1855 - total of 18 years. He served as a chaplain during the Civil War - September 7, 1862 and was mustered out June 1865.

"Stevens Chapel was founded and named for Rev. W. H. Stevens, preacher on the Bedford Circuit of the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church."
