Raymond Maney, 48, overseas veteran of World War I, and a guard at the Manitowoc Ship Building Company was fatally stricken with a heart attack at eight o'clock this morning, shortly after reporting for duty.

Mr. Maney had gone to the west end of the Soo line bridge to relieve another guard when he collapsed. Ralph Fico and Walter Downs of the U.S. Navy Guard Patrol, walking behind him, rushed to his aid and with Charles Sycora, another guard, applied artificial respiration at a small guard shelter nearby. The city ambulance manned by Officers Clarence Tomchek and Ben Buchowski, moved Mr. Maney to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on entrance.

Since moving into the city two years ago from Cato Mr. Maney resided with his sister, Miss Claire Meany of 841 North Eighth street, a teacher in the city schools.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m., from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at nine o'clock from the Sacred Heart church, the Rev. Louis Schorn officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys cemetry at Clarks Mills.

Mr. Maney was born in Cato in 1893, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Meany. He joined in farming on the homestead and enlisted in American forces during the first World war. He served 11 months overseas with the AEF. Returning, he resumed farming. Two years ago he sold the farm and moved to the city.

He was active for years in Amercan Legion circles, at one time being commander of the
Valders post. After moving here and joining the guard force at the ship yards he joined the Drews post in this city. He was also a member of the Manitowoc aerie of Eagles.
