WIDOW OF PIONEER ATTORNEY IS DEAD

MRS. JOHN CARRIGAN, 96, DIES IN MONTANA; BODY IS BEING RETURNED

Mrs. Carrie L. Carrigan, 96, widow of a prominent pioneer attorney here, John Carrigan, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nora C. Smock at St. Ignatius, Montana. Until about ten years ago, Mrs. Carrigan spent about six months a year in Blair.

The body is to arrive in Omaha after midnight tonight and will be brought to Blair at once. No definite funeral arrangement will be known until tomorrow. The Campbell mortuary will be in charge.

Mrs. Carrigan, as Carrie L. Palmer, sister of the late Dr. W. H. Palmer, was born in Pennsylvania in November, 1841, and was married to John Carrigan in Illinois. They came to Nebraska in 1867 and Mr. Carrigan, who had been admitted to the bar in Illinois, began the practice of law at DeSoto. When Blair was founded the Carrigans moved here, and within a few years Mr. Carrigan was one of the noted lawyers of Nebraska, specializing on criminal cases. He died April 21, 1880.

Mrs. Carrigan is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Smock of St. Ignatius. A son, the late District Judge E. B. Carrigan of Blair, also a well-known Nebraska attorney, died ten years ago.

Other survivors are four grandchildren, including County Judge John A. Carrigan and Mrs. Gifford L. Dixon of Blair and Mrs. H. C. Mortlock of Ralston, formerly of Blair; four great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
