Born in Camden, NJ, he grew up in Paulsboro and moved to Hammonton 28 years ago. He was a graduate of Paulsboro High School where he excelled in track and cross country. Most notably he was a member of the South Jersey Champion Mile Relay Team. Mr. Haughey continued his education at Gloucester County College where he at one time held the record for the Triple Jump. He was a member of the Army National Guard, the Masonic Cannon Lodge #104 in South Seville and he was a member of the Laborers Union Local 172 in Folsom. Mr. Haughey was a foreman for Asphalt Paving System in Hammonton. He previously owned and operated Lee A. Haughey Mason Contractor.
He was an avid Phillies fan and Eagles fan.
Mr. Haughey was a "gentle giant." He was kindhearted, loving and honest. To know him was to love him. Anyone who met him loved him. Mr. Haughey took great pride in his work and was a mentor to many.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Deborah Haughey(nee Corl); his daughters and their spouses, Christina and Joe Patane; Jeanine and James Whittaker; his sister, Susan Raff and her husband Charles; his twin brother Leo A. Haughey and his wife Linda; two sisters-in-law, Lisa Haarde and Carolyn Sammons; his grandchildren, Alyssa Patane, Joey Patane, Frank Donio, Tyler, Samantha and Alyssa Dale Whittaker; his nieces, Cindy, Ginny, Johni, Kelly, Kristen, Jamilee and his nephew Kevin.
Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a. m. at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton, where a viewing will be held Thursday 6 p. m. until 9 p. m. and again on Friday 10 a. m. until 11 a. m. Masonic Services will be held Thursday 7:30 p. m. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hammonton.
