GEORGE H. LEMONT ONE OF
ST. HELENS PIONEERS.

Son of Brig Captain in Town Since
1853; Education Gained
in Portland.

ST. HELENS, Or., Nov. 19.-(Special.)-George H. Lemont, oldest resident of St. Helens,died Wednesday; He was born in Bath, Me. , August 25,
1853. His father, Captain George Lemont, came to the coast in 1849 and was master of the brig Comet, plying between San Francisco and Honolulu.
When young Lemont and his mother arrived at San Francisco to meet husband and father they waited for two weeks, only to learn that the master of the vessel had died at sea, so mother and son came to St. Helens to live with Captain Francis Lemont. That was in 1863.
George was sent to the Portland acadamy and among hls schoolmates were Ben Selling. Henry McGinn, Charles Ladd and Edwin Holman and
other members of Portland's pioneer families. He returned to St. Helens to live in a house built of lumber brought from Portland, Me., by his uncle, who owned a sailing vessel. He is survived by his wIdow, Alama Lemont; two sons, Zina and Frank, and four daughters, Mrs. Mark Hegele, Mrs. C. A. Reese, Mrs. Fred Hillmick
and Susan Lemont.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday at the Methodist church and burial will be in the Masonic cemetery. Fellow members of the Knights of Pythias will be in charge of graveside ceremonies.
