Professional Hockey Player. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Johnson played the position of Defense for teams in the EHL, OHSHL, IHL, CHL, NHL, AHA, SCHL, WHL, WSRHL, USAHA, PCHL, and the NMHL hockey leagues. At 5'11, and 210lbs, Johnson played for the Winnipeg Monarchs from 1919 to 1920, Eveleth Rangers from 1920 to 1923, Minneapolis Millers from 1923 to 1926, 1938 to 1940, Minneapolis Rockets from 1924 to 1925, New York Rangers from 1926 to 1937, New York Americans from 1937 to 1938, Hershey Cubs from 1938 to 1939, Marquette Ironmen from 1940 to 1941, Washington Lions from 1941 to 1943, Hollywood Wolves from 1943 to 1944, Detroit Auto Club from 1945 to 1947, Windsor Staffords from 1947 to 1948, Akron Stars from 1947 to 1948, Ryan-Jerry Lynch from 1948 to 1949, and the Edmonton Flyers from 1953 to 1954. Johnson also coached both the Minneapolis Millers and Washington Lions as Head Coach. After his hockey career was over, Johnson became a contractor in a construction business and later settled permanently in Maryland. Johnson passed away in Silver Spring, Maryland, on June 16, 1979, at the age of 81. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player in 1958.
