Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - February 15, 1998. Deceased Name: Death: Harry R. Ballard. Harry Rideout Ballard, age 81, died Feb. 12, 1998 in Murray, Utah. Born Jan. 15, 1917 in Draper, Ut. to Orlando D. and Minnie Rideout Ballard. Married Hannah Bodell on Oct. 28, 1939 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt lake Temple. Harry was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various callings. Retired Battalion Chief for Salt Lake Co. Fire Dept. where he gave 36 years of service. Past President of Utah State Fireman's Association and also served as SL County Fireman's Educational Officer for four years. Member of the lions club for over 59 years and served as President for 2 separate terms in the Murray Lions Club. Past chairman of the Salt lake Co. Fair Sweetheart Contest and master of ceremonies for 22 years. Member of BYU Cougar Club and he enjoyed basketball, football and Track and Field. He served as master of ceremonies to many funcions and he loved jazz music.

Survived by his wife, Hannah; sons, Dennis "Russ", Ryan (Mary), Kent (Regina). 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Brother, Robert Ballard.

Preceded in death by son, Byron; Brothers, Duane and Howard; sister, Dorothy Jensen. Funeral services will be held Tuesday Feb. 17, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Murray 12th Ward 363 East Vine St. Friends may call Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State St. and Tuesday at the church from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Draper City Cemetery.
