There is conflicting information on her date of birth, different ages on census reports etc. which was not uncommon with her family. We believe Martha died late 1881 - 1882 William remarried 12-28-1882..........

Martha Carpenter married William J. Honea (Widower) around 1866.

This is what I have determined to be Martha & William's children. There was a Lewis listed on the 1870 census & a Jackson Honea on the 1880 census - Lewis Jackson.

What appeared to be Emmett Honea turned out to be Elijah T. Honea.

The 1880 census reports does not include Shadrach their first born. He would have been 13 at that time but was not included in the census. He may have been living with an older brother or sister.

William's & Martha's children:

10. Shadrach Meshach Honea born May 1867 died 8-14-1940 married Bertha S. Perry 2-18-1891 in Madison County Alabama. (Bertha was Margaret's, John's Wife sister)

The 1800 census list these children at home:

11. Lewis Jackson born 1868 - ?
12. Samuel M. born 8-30-1869 died 4-7-1943
13. James Willis born 1870
14. Frank born 1872
15. Hugh born 1874 - ?
16. Emmett born 1876 was Elijah T. see below:

The family of Elijah T. Honea state emphatically that he was the son of Martha Carpenter Honea & William Honea. She met him in 1946 when he visited the family in Tennessee.

Family History tells us that Elijah was raised by a step-mother that was mean to him & his brothers, that Elijah had left home early & became close to the Creswell family that he was living with on the 1900 census. He migrated first to Texas & then to Arkansas & only returned to the Alabama Tennessee area one time during his life.

The name appears to be Emmett. It is difficult to read & likely a mistake of the census taker. See census posted in photo section of the memorial"
We always take the word of a living relative - the best source of information for families.
There is no doubt he is part of our family, we just didn't know about him until February 2017.

Martha had died abt. 1880-1881 there is no further record of her after 1880.

We did find a marriage record for a William Honea & Margaret Matthus/Matthews 12-28-1882 Madison County Alabama -

I have not been able to locate Lewis Jackson or Hugh Honea. They likely died young......

Three of the Honea brothers went to Texas together with their families around 1900. John Berry, Shadrach Meshach Honea & their wives, the Perry sisters & Elijah T. Honea who first moved to Texas with his brothers & then to Arkansas where he married Emma Hammond.
