"Mrs. Margaret B. Wilber, widow of the late Hon. David Wilber, died at her home in Oneonta, Thursday of last week. Although in poor health for several months, she had been about the house much of the time and on pleasant days was occasionally seen on the porch of her house. She suffered a stroke of apoplexy on Tuesday since which time she gradually lost strength until death occurred. The maiden name of Mrs. Wilber was Margaret Belinda Jones and she was a daughter of William Eaton Jones and Martha Hotchkiss of the town of Maryland where she was born February 13th, 1823. Her father was a soldier in the War of 1812, and her mother was a daughter of James Hotchkiss of Woodbridge, Conn., who served in the War of the Revolution. She was married to David Wilber on January 1st, 1845, when they began their life together in a log cabin upon Crumhorn Mountain, where their eldest son, George I. Wilber was born ... She is survived by two sons, George I. Wilber, president of the Wilber National Bank of Oneonta, and Hon. David F. Wilber, consul general for the United States at Vancouver, British Columbia and a sister, Mrs. Mary Mead of Oneonta. The funeral services were held from her late home, Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Dr. Austin Griffin, a former pastor and lifelong friend, and Rev. T. G. Dickson, her late pastor. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery." [The Otsego Farmer & Republican (Cooperstown, NY), Oct. 13, 1911, p. 7]
