John Edward Vick, 79, passed to the Lord Friday, May 25, 2012. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ridglea United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Fortner presiding. Interment: Shive Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society (ACS), P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123 or by telephone at 1-800-227-2345.

John was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Hamilton County to Chester Otis Vick and Lillian Risinger Vick. He attended school in Shive and Evant. Upon graduation, John attended Texas A&M University in College Station. He married Alta Weems in 1953. John earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering in 1955-1956. After graduation, John and Alta moved to Albuquerque, N.M. John and Alta worked at Sandia Corporation. John worked on nuclear and radar projects for the United States military. Their first child, Gayla Kathleen, was born in 1958. Upon returning to Texas in 1959, John began a long and successful career with General Dynamics (now Lockheed) in Fort Worth. John's second child, John Jr., was born in 1961. John was a driving force in the engineering and manufacture of F-111, F-16, and F-35 aircraft. John retired as vice president of Engineering in 1998. John and Alta are members of Ridglea United Methodist Church (RUMC). John served as a past president of the board of trustees and was the president of the RUMC Foundation. After retirement, John and Alta traveled around the world. John maintained a family ranch in Hamilton with his late brother, Otis Vick. John and Otis raised cattle on the family ranch.

Survivors: Wife, Alta Vick; son, John Edward Vick Jr. of Houston; daughter, Gayla Stone and husband, David Stone, of Fort Worth; nephew, Sam Vick of San Antonio. John leaves five grand-children: Brittany Stone, Jacy Stone, Lexi Vick, Madison Vick and Jed Vick.
