A longtime resident of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and for 8 years a resident of Grand Oaks in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2012. She was 94.

She was devoted to her family and many friends.

Her husband J. Edward Day, former Postmaster General of the United States, died in 1996.

She has two daughters Geraldine Day Zurn and Mary Louise (Molly) Day and sons-in-law James Zurn and John Himmelfarb as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Her son James Edward Day, Jr. and brother Kenneth F. Burgess, Jr. are deceased. She is survived by her sister Joan Shorey.

The family will hold a gathering at Grand Oaks on Saturday, January 28, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to THIS for Diplomats, Meridian International Center, 1630 Crescent Place, NW Washington, DC 20008.
