Clarence Pack, age 89, of Beaver, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 following a sudden illness.

Born in Bellpoint (Summers County) to the late Albert Thurmond Pack and Virginia Alice Moye.

Mr. Pack served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the 239th Engineers. He also served in New Guinea and the Philippines for 14 months where he helped the liberation of the Philippines. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal, two bronze stars, The Philippine Liberation Medal, and The Presidential Unit Citation.

He was a member of the 4469 VFW Post in Beckley. He was retired from The Republic Steel Mill after 30 years in Cleveland, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Vernon F. Pack Sr. and sisters, Virginia Richmond, Sarah Dove, and Agnes Richmond.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 39 years, Mrs. Eileen Wagner Pack; son, David C. Pack of Ohio, by his first wife Wilda Pack; brother, Ernest Pack of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters-in-law Carrie Mae Pack, June Haessley, Shirley Conti; and a brother and sister-in-law James and Joan Wagner; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Graveside service and committal will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity with his nephews Rev. Gary Ickes and Rev. E.G. "Buzz" Keller officiating and Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 will conduct military graveside rites. Interment will follow in the cemetery after the services.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.

The family would also like to thank the staff of the Bowers Hospice House for their gracious service; and also thank nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and his sister-in-law for the care they gave to Clarence.
