Mrs. Linda Lanning Burton, 65, of Big Stone Gap, Va., and formerly of Cedartown, GA. passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, following an extended illness. She was born in Cedartown, GA to the late James and Lucille Timms Lanning. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Big Stone Gap. She had resided in Big Stone Gap following her retirement and subsequent illness. She was also a member of the C.H. Hagy Chapter of the D.A.V.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray "Charlie" Burton; daughter, Pamula Gail Guttery; her sister, Sarah Baker; brother Oscar Lanning; and her first husband, Horace Guttery.
She is survived by her children Pamela Burton Douglas and husband Herman, Jeanne Denice Burton, all of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Janice Echeverri and her husband Jose of Dover, Del., Quinn Scott Guttery and his wife Michelle of Buford, Ga., Kimberly Guttery Haugen and her husband Robert of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two brothers, Bud Lanning and Howard Lanning, both of Cedartown, Ruby Brantley of Rockmart and Martha Garrett of Fort Payne, Ala. Thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at 2 p.m. from Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap, Va., with Pastor Alan Collier officiating. Interment followed in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
