"Married Dorcus James circa 1780.

His pension record shows he lived in Culpepper, Hampshire, and Randolph counties Virginia.

He had several children.

- 1774 assembled at "Little Meadows" in Greenbrier County, W.V and marched to the mouth of Kanawaha River, battle of Point Pleasure.
- Reinlisted as a guard at the fort at the mouth of the Kanawana River until the following February.
- 1778 went to Glousester County VA to make salt while there he joined with captain Billups and guarded the shores of Chesapeke Bay and the York River.
- At the time of expedition against Cornwaallis he was detailed to make salt for the army.
- After the war he moved to Randolph County, VA now Tucker County, WVA and settled in the Horse Shoe Bottom of the Cheat River, 2 miles E of St. George, moved to Limestone Mt. 7 miles north, then to Horseshoe Run, 5 miles east of St. George. He was elected 4 times sheriff of Randolph County.
