MRS. MARY E. PAYNE EXPIRES AT COLFAX
Mrs. Mary E. Payne, widow of the late Benjamin Payne, past away in Colfax Sunday night after an illness of about three months. Mrs. Payne, whose maiden name was Anderson, was born in Jefferson county, Ind., February 26, 1850, and came to Illinois with her parents when she was 5 years old. She was married to Benjamin Payne in 1867. For two years after her marriage, she lived on a farm south of Bloomington, after which the family moved to Colfax. Her father owned the land on which the city of Colfax now stands. Mr. Payne died in 1893. Her brother, Harrison Anderson, died about two weeks ago. She is survived by two sons, William O., residence unknown; Millard Whitney Payne, of Miller, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Scott Cunningham, of Normal, and Mrs. Maud Belmar, of Colfax; a brother, Millard F. Anderson; fourteen grand-children and eight great grand children. Mrs. Payne had been a member of the Christian church since childhood. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, conducted by Rev. O. McNemar, pastor of the Christian church in that city.
