Dutch-American Basketball Player. Best remembered in the NBA as one the first international basketball players to reach the NBA finals. Born in the Netherlands, his family migrated to the United States when he was eight years old. They settled in New Jersey where he attended North Planfield High School. He played center position on the 1941 NIT champion Long Island University team where he was team captian for the 1941 to 1942 season. After a short break from basketball to serve in World War II, he returned to the game where he played for several franchises including the the Boston Celtics (1948 to 1949).
