Celebration of Life Obit
Andy was born February 26th 1949 in Salt Lake City, Ut, the son of Andrew Delbert Peterson and Marica Lyrle (Lynn) Peterson. His family later lived in Seattl; Tokyo, Japan; Forestville, MD; Yakima, WA; and District Heights, MD. After graduating from Suitland High School in 1967, he relocated to New England, living in NH, MA, and CT.
The depth and breadth of his knowledge and interest could no be encompassed by his formal educational experiences. He was widely read and well-informed -- his Congressional representatives were the recipients of his suggestions and criticisms on many occasions. He studied at Portland Community College during the 1990's, working towards an Associates Degree in Industrial Drafting. He picked up studies again at PCC in Multimedia in the 2010's.
He worked in drafting positions in the Portland area, did camp maintenance for the Portland Council of Camp Fire, took school photos for Herff Jones, provided security, including shift supervisor for CIGNA in CT, and repaired SAABs. He was very proud of his years as a volunteer emergency medical technician in Granby, CT.
His great passions were vintage SAAB automobiles and dance. He was an active member of the Northwest SAAB Owners Club. He danced English Country, Morris, Contra, Vintage Ballroom, and Scandinavian Folk Dance, performing in Nordlys for the last 20 years. He loved music of all types and photography. He gave his best whatever he did and was one of the most nurturing people one could hope to meet.

Andrew David Peterson 63, of Portland OR, was found early June of 2012, sitting at his computer, having passed away several days earlier. It was a sad loss to the community of dancers and SAAB owners who knew him.
Andy was a former SAAB mechanic and a lifetime SAAB enthusiast. He was a life time member of the Northwest SAAB Owners Club. He was a club stalwart, a fixture at club meetings and events. Prior to his passing, he had taken over as the position the newsletter editor of the "Freewheelin,'" the Northwest SAAB Owners Club Newsletter. Hundreds of SAAB enthusiasts and others who never meet him considered him a friend by their email interaction. When someone needed help, he never hesitated to offer his hand.
Survived by his wife, Kathryn "Kit" Peterson, stepsons Shaun McLaughlin of Beaverton, OR; and Brendan McLaughlin of Tampa, FL; his sisters, Lyrl Ahern of Acton MA; Karen Turney of Laurel MD; a beloved niece, plus several much loved nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, A. Delbert and Marcia (Lynn) Peterson.
