Composer. The only woman of the motley group of French musicians called "Les Six." She contributed a dance movement to their only joint collaboration, the ballet "The Marriage on the Eiffel Tower" (1921). Stravinsky praised her music and she was a close friend of Ravel during the 1920s. From 1925 to 1929 she was married to American cartoonist Ralph Barton. Although Tailleferre wrote several large-scale compositions (including four operas and two piano concertos), many went unpublished and others have been lost due to neglect. When she died at 91, Tailleferre was the last surviving member of "Les Six". Today her reputation is rising steadily, and her chamber music in particular is frequently played and recorded.
