Rev. John R. Deering, who is conducting the meeting at the Methodist church, is as lovable socially as he is potent in the pulpit, and he is doing a lasting good. He is an old confederate soldier and feels to this day the effects of a serious wound he received in the arm while battling for the cause he loved so well, but which was destined to have its banner furled forever. After he was shot Mr. Ed Stagg attempted to send him to the rear, but while doing so he was so badly shot in the leg that it had to be amputated. It is needless to say that the two are fast friends. They hadn't met for a long time till Sunday, when they fell on each other's necks and wept tears of joy to see each other again in the flesh.

News has been received here of the death of Mr. Ed Stagg, in Lebanon, Tuesday night, at the home of his sister, Mrs. C. T. Bohon. He had not been in good health for sometime and was found dead in bed when the family went to waken him. He was seventy-three years of age and was a former citizen of this county, where he lived for many years at Fairview, farm now owned by Mr. Howard Forsythe, and he still has many friends and relatives here. He was an ex-Confederate soldier and a very highly esteemed gentleman. His remains were taken to Stanford for interment. He was a brother-in-law of Dr. J. T. Bohon.
