Enlisted, May 28, 1917, in Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A Cavalry reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. The 105th Machine Gun Battalion was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, for training.

Appointed, June 1, 1918, 2nd Lieutenant, Field Artillery. Shipped to France, July 31, 1918, and assigned to Headquarters, 109th Field Artillery, 29th Division. Returned to the States, May 24, 1919 and discharged from the service, May 26, 1919.
