Calvin T. Carter, Jr. was born on August 9, 1953 in Gary, Indiana to Calvin T. Carter, Sr. and LeJoyce Carter.

Cal, as he was affectionately known, was a child prodigy who could read the newspaper aloud as soon as he learned to speak as a child. Due to his extraordinary gift, at age 4, he was often on his Aunt Vivian Carter's local radio show, where Cal read the record labels over the air, of the next selection to be played, to the amazement and delight of the listening audience.

Cal also accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.

Cal attended Walter Reed Junior High School in North Hollywood, California and South Shore High School in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated in 1971. Cal also was an outstanding Liberal Arts student at the University of Illinois Circle Campus, before deciding to relocate to California, the state he grew fond of during his childhood.

After several years in California, Cal returned to Illinois where he worked for Ameritech and became a faithful, devoted and active member of Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church.

After a massive corporate downsizing at Ameritech, Cal left Illinois and returned to California. During a recent visit back to Illinois, Cal was hospitalized at St. James Hospital, for a sudden illness and departed his life.

Cal will be remembered and truly missed by his Mother, LeJoyce Carter-Joyner (Robert); Sister, Phocia J. Washington (Jake); Brother, Tollie L. Carter; Grandmother, Laura Haynes; Nieces, Laurie and Elizabeth Washington; Nephew, Allen R. Dennis, Jr. and a host of Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and Friends. Cal's father was legendary record producer Calvin Carter of Vee-Jay Records.
