In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest H. Doty, Jr. and his wife, Beatrice Porter Doty, Jack T. Doty, Sr. and his wife, Virginia Gollihue Doty, and Max B. Doty.
Alfred was a retired mechanic and electrician in the coal mines for 42 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A. District 17. As a young man, Al earned his pilot's license and loved to fly airplanes. A couple of years ago, accompanied by his son Roger, he was able to revisit his love of flying when a local pilot from our local airport allowed him to have a supervised piloting session over WV. One of the greatest accomplishments of Al's life was when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1993. He immediately took membership in Kistler Freewill Baptist Church where he was a very active member and enjoyed taking part in all church activities. Devoted to his family, Al was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Quiet by nature, Al was humble in all that he did and has left a legacy of faithfulness for those who shared his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Al was the loving husband of 63 years to the love of his life, Beulah Copley Doty;
the devoted father of Roger Doty, Sr. of Charleston and Bruce (Ramona) Doty of Lorado;
the beloved brother of Ruth White of Andover, OH, Myrna (David) Bucy of Melbourne, FL, Mona (Troy) Lambert of Chesapeake, VA, and Diana "Jo" (Thomas) Morelli of Virginia Beach, VA and sister-in-law, Von Doty of Kistler; the loving grandfather of three, Amanda (Stacey) Hager of Charleston, Roger (Kristy) Doty of Beckley, and Tracey (Riki) De of Crites;
great-grandfather to grandsons, Jase Doty of Beckley and Cashel and Cormac Hager of Charleston;
uncle to many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
