Second Attempt to End Life Successful; Drowning Effort Thwarted.
Lena Snyder, 35 years old, committed suicide by strangling herself with a blanket in a cell at the county jail about 8 o'clock Thursday night. She died on the way to a hospital.
Alva Snyder, 432 West Noble avenue, husband of the woman, was arrested and ordered held for investigation. He told officers that Mrs. Snyder had been at home late Thursday afternoon and said they had quarreled.
The woman had been placed in the jail after an alleged attempt to take her own life by drowning, according to Stanley Rogers, sheriff.
The woman jumped from the bridge near Choctaw and Exchange avenues into the Canadian river, officers said. She was saved from drowning by two men.
Mrs. Snyder is survived by her husband; a former husband, Charles Kelly, 1115 Linwood boulevard, barber, and two children, Opal Kelly, 9 years old, and Nola Kelly, 7 years old. The woman's father, J.L. True, lives in Bakersfield, Calif. The body was taken to the Jones funeral home, 729 West Main street.
