During WWII, he served in the Navy in the Pacific. In 1947, he moved to Portland, where he co-owned and then owned Color & Design, a display business, for more than 15 years. AFter retiring, he was business manager for Portland Foursquare Church. He moved to San Diego in 1993. In 1942, he married Mary Belle Hamilton; she died in 1992. He married Echodell Vaught in 1992. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Melodie Erickson, Janae Goerz, Melinda Garfield and Michelle Umphress; stepdaughter, Barbara Blackington; stepson, Brent Vaught; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
