Patricia (Pat) Johanna Uhlis, 90, of Springfield passed away on Tuesday June 26, 2012. She was born March 22, 1922 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Reuben C. and Bertha (Koehler) Streeter.

She was united in marriage on December 20, 1948 in Lander Wyoming to Francis J. (Fran) Uhlis who preceded her in death on August 15, 1979. They had 2 children, Dan Uhlis and Debby Uhlis Parsons.

Pat graduated in 1940 from Technical High School in St Cloud. She attended St Benedicts College in St. Joseph, MN. and graduated from St. Mary's school of Nursing Minneapolis in 1944.

Pat was a United States army veteran serving during World War II from 1944-1946. She was a First Lieutenant served as a surgical nurse while stationed in the Philippines.
She continued her employment as a nurse at the VA hospital in Minneapolis until her marriage. In 1950, she and Fran moved to Springfield, Mo where he was employed with KGBX radio and later KYTV. Pat continued working as a nurse in 1960 at St. Johns Hospital and later began providing nurse consultation services to various nursing homes throughout Springfield. In 1970 Pat was named the Director of Nursing for Springfield Rest Home and 2 years later was named as the Administrator. She continued in that capacity until her retirement in 1989. During the 1950s and 60s, Pat and Fran worked with other families in Springfield to help establish the first State Training School #1 ( now Greene Valley State School) and the Springfield Sheltered Workshop. Pat continued working with parent groups for both organizations while Dan attended both programs.

During her free time, Pat was involved in various clubs, bridge groups and Elks activities. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She loved going to the boat and traveling with her husband, friends and son. She especially enjoyed her visits and shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter! Pat worked tirelessly throughout her life to support quality care for seniors and appropriate services for individuals with disabilities.

Survivors include daughter, Debby Uhlis Parsons and her husband Dave of Jefferson City; granddaughter, Jadra Parsons of Ozark, step-grandsons, Jaron and Dylan Parsons and their families of Wellington, Kansas; her brother Jack Streeter, her niece Pam Nelson, and 3 nephews Rob, John and Jeff Streeter and their families, all from the state of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fran and son Dan.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Cunningham, the staff at the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek and the Staff from Mercy Hospice for their care and support.

A visitation and prayer service will be held from 7-9pm on Thursday, July 5 , 2012 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery. All services will be held in Springfield, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Dan Uhlis memorial fund, c/o Central Bank, Box 779, Jefferson City, MO, 65102.
