Mary Belle Hunt, 85, of 499 W. Sheridan Line Road, Peck, Michigan, died Thursday, December 29, 1977 in Deckerville Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was born November 13, 1892 in Fremont Township, Sanilac County Michigan to William and Harriet Wilson. She married Charles Hunt October 16, 1912 in Croswell, Michigan.
Prior to her marriage she worked as a clerk in the McIntyre store in Roseburg, Michigan. Charlie and Belle farmed in Speaker Township, Michigan raising horses and milking cows. Belle tended a large garden and an orchard to provide food for her family. She also raised turkeys, chickens and guineas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie who died in 1954 and an infant son, Glenn. She is survived by four daughters: Lucille (George) Hirons, Nora (Dwight) Elston, Erva (William) Maitland all of Peck, and Julia (Daniel) Smith of Brown City, Michigan, a son, Elmer (Patricia) Hunt of Peck, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a brother Hugh Wilson of Traverse City.
Services were held December 31, 1977 in the Carman Funeral Home, Peck, Michigan. The Reverend Willard King, pastor of the Peck United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Fremont Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews: Glenn Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, Russell Wilson, Howard Wilson and Frank Wilson.

Most of her family lived within two miles of the home place, so the family was very close knit and she was very seldom without company. After Elmer's marriage he continued to work the family farm and milk cattle at her home.

Grandma was well known for her kindness to all, her gentle way and her rolled molasses cookies. When you went to Grandma Hunt's you always had a "lunch" which consisted of tea, Ritz crackers with real butter, homemade jam, Peter Pan peanut butter, flavored cheese spread, in a jar from the store and cookies. Everything always tasted better at Grandma's. You always got a box of cookies to take home with you.

We also has a gentle horse to ride "Mr. Ed" which was purchased for the grandchildren by Uncle Elmer. Mr. Ed also had a pony cart we could hook him up to and ride down the road. It usually took a lot of work to get the cart going, airing up the tires and hooking up Mr. Ed to it, but it was something fun for the grandchildren to do.
