Harrisburg, IL. ­ Velda Irene Winders, 90, formerly of Marion, died Nov. 1, 2003 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marion and the local chapter of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, Fred Winders of Harrisburg, IL.; a daughter, Sonja Dixon of Hopkinsville; a brother, Lester Brantley Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Coleene Gass of Haslet, Mich. and Evelyn Day of Marion; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Winders; a daughter, Charlotte Winders; and her parents, Lester and Nonie Brantley.
Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Dixon and Bishop David Jones officiating. Burial was at Pythian Ridge Cemetery.

She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marion, Ky.
Surviving are a daughter, Sonja Dixon; a son, Fred; two sisters, Coleene Gass and Evelyn Day; a brother, Lester Brantley Jr.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, Ky., burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery there. Visitation is after 7 p.m. Tuesday

Velda Winders


Velda Winders, a resident of the Carrier Mills Nursing Home, passed away at 2:45 Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003.
Velda was born on Aug. 2, 1913, in Crittendon County, Ky. Her parents were the late Lester and Nonie Brantley. She was married to Clifton Winders on April 2, 1933.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton, and a sister, Leonteen Jones.
She is survived by a brother, Lester Brantley Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Mich. and two sisters, Coleene Gass of Haslet, Mich. and Evelyn Day of Marion, Ky. Velda had three children, Charlotte Winders, who died shortly after birth, Sonja Dixon of Hopkinsville, Ky. and Fred Winders of Harrisburg. She had three grandchildren, Robert Neal Dixon, Dinah (Dixon) Taylor and Nicole (Winders) Lyerla. She had five great-grandchildren, Katie and Carter Dixon, Noah and Benjamin Taylor and Paul Lyerla.
Velda was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marion, Ky. and the Eastern Star.
The funeral will be at Gilbert's Funeral Home in Marion, Ky. 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.
