She was born and raised in Indiana and came to California in the mid-1950's where she worked as a legal secretary for a law firm. In 1963 (May 15, 1963) she married Lou, to whom she gave 40 years of love and devotion, cherishing his children and grandchildren as though they were her own. She was a member of Childhelp, USA, sponsored several children through the World Vision program, and was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for the last 15 years. Helen believed in the goodness of people and, especially for this, will be missed as a wife, a mamaw, and a friend. Helen is survived by her husband, Lou; stepson, Don (Ginny); daughter, Marilou (Merl); 3 grandchildren; brothers, William, Herbert and Robert Smith and many beloved nieces and nephews of Indiana. Services held January 25, 2003 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Glendale, CA. Family assisted by Ekerman-Heisman Funeral Service, Burbank.
