Eleazar Smith was the son of Michael Swing Smith and Nancy Bateman. He married Florence Boggs in March 1897. They were the parents of Floyd.

Newspaper article written about his death:
Eleasar Smith died last night from the effects of an accident that occurred yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock, upon the John Green farm north-east of Douglass, three miles. He was cutting corn using a machine cutter drawn by mules. The team ran away, and one of the knives caught Eleasar under the knee, across the upper part of the calf of one of his legs and cut to the bone, severing one or more arteries. Hope Taylor and Bert Boggs, two young men were in the field with him and quicky went to his rescue.
