Folk Legend. In 1994, he drove his 1966 John Deere riding lawmower across Iowa and part of Wisconsin 240 miles to visit his ailing, estranged brother, Henry. His story was portrayed in the David Lynch film 'The Straight Story' (1999). His funeral procession was accompanied by a lawn mower similar to the one he was known for riding.
