Major League Baseball Player. For eleven seasons (1961 to 1971), he played at the outfielder position with the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers. Born Norman Michael Hershberger, he attended Massillon High School (Ohio) where he excelled in baseball and football and later the University of Cincinnati on a football scholarship. He focused on a professional baseball career and was signed as an amateur free agent by the White Sox in 1959. He marked his Major League debut on September 5th, 1961 and appeared in 15 games with Chicago, recording an impressive .309 batting average in limited playing time. Over the next three years (1962 to 1964), he secured a starting role in the White Sox's outfield and established himself as a topnotch fielder with a strong accurate arm. After being acquired by the Kansas City Athletics, he yielded career-highs in hits with 136 and runs batted in with 57. In 1,150 regular season games, he compiled 1,150 hits with a .252 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, Hershberger worked in sales.
