Hubert Lee Respess of Lambert, 78, a retired farmer, died Friday, September 29, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi at Oxford of cancer.

Services were Sunday, October 1, at First Baptist Church of Lambert, where he was a member, with the Revs. Wayne Long and Don O'Quinn officiating. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home of Marks had charge.

Born May 12, 1922, in Lambert, he was a U. S. Army World War II veteran, past Quitman County school board member, past chairman of the Quitman County Soil and Water Conservation District, past Farm Bureau president, and a service officer for Veterans Affairs until February, 2000.

The husband of Mildred Shaw Respess for 57 years, he is also survived by two sons, Ronnie Respess and Don Respess, both of Lambert; six grandchildren, Amanda Respess of Hattiesburg, Ron Respess of Lambert, Courtney Albrecht of Montgomery, AL, Amy Corbin of Lambert, Wash Respess of Athens, GA, and Lee Respess of Scofield Barracks, HI; and three great-grandchildren, Myles Payton Respess and Stone Sanders Respess, both of Lambert, and Katherine Ellis Albrecht of Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by a son, Hubert Lee "Chuck" Respess, Jr.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lambert or to a charity of the donor's choice.
