He was one of two children and is survived by his sister, Bernice. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Church where we gather in its sanctuary this afternoon. He attended rural country school for eight years. He grew up in Henderson Township of Sibley County and in 1946 he moved to Jessenland township, Sibley county. On November 26, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Arlington township of Sibley County, he married his wife, Adela who was a faithful and devoted companion to him. She helped him even when the challenge was great for her. Carl was blessed when he met Adela. Together they had the joy of a son, Carl born in 1957. Later their daughter-in-law and then granddaughter joined their family.
An accident in 1957 changed his life but not his determination. Carl fell from a roof while shingling and was paralyzed from his waist down. During that period of his life he was greatly assisted by the Rohloff and Eibs families. With rehabilitation at Sister Kenny, and a strong determination to continue farming after being told to consider something else, he continued to farm for the next 20 years with the help of his beloved wife, Adele. During that time he was a man ahead of his age with regards to conservation, and in the late 70's was awarded recognition for his conservation efforts.
After farming Carl kept close to home and enjoyed the many visits of the Zion Church friendly visitors and others. He loved bird-watching and enjoyed his dog, Spud. Carl spent his last 7 months at the Arlington Nursing Home and spoke to his wife daily by telephone calls. He would tell her who visited that day, especially taking delight in the visits of the friendly visitors.
