Beverly J. Butler, 61, of Augusta, died at her home on Thursday, July 5, 2012.

Beverly was born in Sanford on January 28, 1951 to Francis and Edith (Solloway) Butler. She grew up in Sanford and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1969. She later attended Westbrook College where she graduated with an associate's degree in Medical Assisting.

Beverly was employed for a time by Dr. William White in South Portland; she went to work as a medical transcriptionist at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. For the last 17 years she worked as a medical transcriptionist at MaineGeneral Health in Augusta.

Beverly had a green thumb. She was able to grow tomatoes on her patio into November. She also had many Christmas Cacti and several snake plants, some of which are over thirty years old. She enjoyed traveling. She was able so see many places during her life including England, Ireland, Majorca, Bermuda, Canada and many destinations within the United States including Alaska. Beverly loved playing Sudoku and was able to complete whole Sudoku books in very short periods. She was always concerned about different environmental causes and animal welfare. Animals would often approach her, whether it was a squirrel, a rabbit or one of the Budweiser Clydesdales. Beverly will be remembered as a kind and loving sister and aunt and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are three siblings, Brenda Butler of Portland, Robert Butler of Sanford and Bruce Butler of Poland, ME; two special nieces, Sherrie Andrews and her husband Billy of Sanford and Kerrie White and her husband Brian of Shapleigh and many other nieces and nephews; her two cats, Pebbles and Cindy and her pen pal since 1963, Marian King of Tasmania, Australia.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, July 9th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Sanford. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 at the Oakdale Cemetery, located on Twombley Road in Sanford.
