Joseph W Brandl age 73 of Rt 1 Cato former town assessor and father of 17 children died Sunday afternoon following a lingering illness. Funeral services 9:30am Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home Manitowoc and 10am at St Mary's Catholic Church Clarks Mills, Rev Michael Fetko officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

On 8 October 1901 he married Mary Schreiner in New Ulm, Minnesota. He operated a farm for 45 years, was named Cato assessor in 1924 serving through 1950 and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his wife; 8 sons - Charles, Leonard & Jack of Columbus, Ohio; Victor, Ottmar & Herbert of Manitowoc; Bernard of Rt 1 Whitelaw; Robert of Rt 1 Cato; 7 daughters - Sister Mary Hermengild of Potosi WI; Veronica/Mrs George Reiderer, Agnes/Mrs Ray Mahlock, Rose/Mrs Andrew Budnar all of Manitowoc; Elizabeth/Mrs Bernard Augustine of Sheboygan; Mrs Ann Ebert of Rt 1 Cato; Beatrice 'Patsy'/Mrs Paul Stieber of Rt 2 Reedsville; brother Charles of Rt 1 Cato; 2 sisters - Sophia/Mrs John Reiderer & Theresa/Mrs George Loritz both of Manitowoc; 36 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
