Leroy Walton Christianson, age 80, of 403 Christel Drive, Valders, died Monday morning, Aug. 18, 2003, at his residence in the arms of his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Don Staude with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
Leroy was born on Oct. 13, 1922 in the town of Cato, son of the late Alfred and Tilda Torrison Christianson. He was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1940. Leroy married the former Leona Denk on Feb. 10, 1945 at St. Mary Parsonage, Clarks Mills. He worked as a dairy farmer on the home farm. Leroy also worked for Bahr construction Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1983. He was supervisor for the town of Cato for six years and served as chairman for the town of Cato for 20 years. He also served as supervisor of the Manitowoc County Board for seven years and secretary for the Manitowoc County Fair for many years. Leroy was a past member of the Clarks Mills Sportsmen's Club and the Valders Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Christianson, Valders; five daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanne and John Wilson, Newman, Ca., Carol and James Fisher, Pauls Valley, Okla.; Barbara and Charles Wendling, Collins; June and Paul LaCroix, Manitowoc, Shari and Daniel Carpenter, DePere; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Julie Christianson, Darboy, Steven and Julie Christianson, Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren: Shea, Shannon, Shawn, Michele, Kenneth II, Mathew, Troy, Craig, Brett, Lindsay, Sarah, Crystal, Justin, Shana, Nathan, Melissa, and 12 great grandchildren and very special friend, Greg Place. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Leroy was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Darlene Christianson; one grandson, Brian LaCroix; two brothers and sisters-in-law; Raymond and Anne Christianson, Wilfred and LaVerne Christianson; six brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Norbert Denk, Harvey and Dorothy Reinke; Louis and Mathilda Pivonka; Nick and Anna Schuh; Louis and Agnes Denk and Marcus and Viola Denk.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 from 3 p.m. until the time of service from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6:30 p.m. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center is assisting the Christianson family with funeral arrangements.
Leroy and his family would like to thank Dr. Schmidt, Holy Family Hospice and the Rev. Danald Staude for their care and support. Leroy enjoyed 54 years of deer hunting. He took special pride in caring for his flowers. He continued the Norwegian tradition of making lutefisk and lefse at Christmastime and always enjoyed a good Norwegian joke. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daddy was an inspiration to his family with his infinite wisdom, continuing guidance, unselfish caring ways, sensitivity, insight, sense of humor, compassion and quiet manner.
