OBITUARY, Paterson Daily Guardian, 6/28/1899.

DEATH OF MRS. ROBERTS - ONLY DAUGHTER OF THE LATE JOHN RYLE EXPIRES SUDDENLY.

SHE WAS PLANNING FOR A SUMMER TRIP.

HAD BEEN AILING FOR A FEW WEEKS BUT SEEMED HEALTHY AND CHEERFUL AN HOUR BEFORE HER DEATH - CLOT OF BLOOD REACHED THE HEART - WAS ACTIVE IN WORKS OF CHARITY.

Mrs. Jemima Ryle Roberts, only daughter of the late John Ryle, died suddenly today shortly before noon today at her home, 393 Ellison Street. She had been ailing for several weeks but this morning seemed to be in better health and spirits than usual. Her husband, Augustus F. Roberts, went to his business in New York and when he received a telegram three hours afterwards informing him of the death of his wife he was greatly shocked. The direct cause of Mrs. Roberts' death was heart trouble. She was one of the best known of the young society people in this city, although during the past three or four years she has not taken so prominent a part in social functions as formerly. Prior to her marriage about seven years ago, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Paterson General Hospital Association and worked so hard during her connection with the institution that her health was impaired and she was compelled by her physician to resign. Her resignation, however, did not prevent her from taking a lively interest in the affairs of the institution. As a young woman, Mrs. Roberts was exceedingly devoted to her father, and she was travelling with him in Europe when he died. The shock produced by his death greatly affected her. Recently her step-sister, Miss Lindley, died suddenly in England, and this incident also affected her nervous system. Since her marriage, Mrs. Roberts had devoted most of her time to her home. She was the mother of three children, one of whom died. This morning she was making preparations to go away for the Summer with her husband and two children, when she suddenly complained of being seriously ill. Dr. T. Y. Kinne, the family physician, was summoned. Mrs. Roberts was at the point of death when he arrived. Her chief ailment was inflammation of the veins. Dr. Kinne found that from this cause a clot of blood reached the heart, thus producing death. William and Thomas M. Ryle were informed of their sister's death just as they reached the Hamilton Club at noon for lunch. The husband arrived from New York this afternoon. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.

DEATH NOTICE, Paterson Daily Guardian, 6/30/1899.

ROBERTS - In this city, on Wednesday, June 28th, 1899, Jemima Ryle Roberts, daughter of the late John Ryle and wife of A. F. Roberts, entered into rest.
