Called Evelyn her whole life, She was the eldest of the five children of Louis B. and Maria Agusta (Goncalves) Souza. She grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts and later relocated to Bristol, Rhode Island after her marriage. She spent her youth working in mills and learning to sew, she was a USO girl during WWII and made elaborate outfits for herself, her sisters and other friends and family. Evelyn loved to dance. She was always learning new dances and was a big hit on the dance floor. She danced actively until a car accident in her 70's prevented most rigorous activity. She was a wonderful cook, had a fantastic sense of humor and was loved well by her many grandchildren and nieces as well as those who saw her on her neighborhood walks or at senior center activities. She was a devout Catholic and was friendly with the clergy at her local church. She was very proud of her Portuguese heritatge, loved to sing songs, loved to listen to "fado" music and enjoyed various cultural feasts and merriments. She is survived by her two children, four grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew.
