John Wesley Turner
Birth: Jul. 19, 1833
Death: Apr. 8, 1899

Civil War general & later a prominent St. Louis, Missouri (USA) businessman. Turner entered West Point at the age or 18 & graduated in 1855. His Civil War service began in 1861 on the staff of General David Hunter in Kansas & then on the staff of General Benjamin Butler in New Orleans. He was promoted to Brigadier General of volunteers & in 1864 he led a division of the XVIII Corps in action at Petersburg, VA. He commanded a division in General Gibbon's XXIV Corps in the Appomattox campaign. Turner was promoted to brevet major general of volunteers in 1864 & was awarded brevets of brigadier general & major general, U.S. Army the following year.
